JINTRODUCTION TO SOUND SYNTHESIS

6-HOUR HANDS-ON WORKSHOP
WIDER SOUNDS STUDIO | SAN LORENZO, IBIZA

Enter the world of sound synthesis inside WIDER SOUNDS, a private recording studio and creative space in the heart of Ibiza.

Led by composer, sound artist, producer and sound engineer Coco Francavilla, this intimate 6-hour workshop introduces the fundamental principles behind electronic sound creation through a combination of listening, theory and hands-on experimentation.

What makes the experience unique is the opportunity to learn directly on a collection of iconic analog, vintage and modern synthesizers—instruments that have shaped the history of electronic music.

From the Minimoog to the Prophet-5 todular systems and contemporary digital instruments, participants can hear, touch and compare different approaches to synthesis while understanding the principles that connect them all.

Rather than learning one specific machine, the aim is to understand how sound works—and how that knowledge can be transferred to almost any synthesizer, hardware or software.

THE WORKSHOP

Sound, Vibration & Frequency
Begin with the foundations of sound: how vibrations become music and how frequency, pitch, amplitude and timbre shape what we hear.

Waveforms & Harmonics
Explore sine, triangle, saw and square waves and discover how their harmonic structures create different sonic characters.

Inside a Synthesizer
Understand the essential architecture of synthesis through oscillators, filters, envelopes, amplifiers and modulation.

Shaping a Sound
Learn how a simple waveform can be transformed into basses, leads, pads, textures, drones and evolving sounds.

Exploring Different Synthesizers
Compare the character and architecture of legendary instruments including the Minimoog Model D, Juno-60, Prophet-5 and Moog Matriarch, alongside modular and digital systems.

Introduction to Ableton Live
See how synthesizers can be integrated into a modern production environment using MIDI and audio, and learn the basic workflow for recording and developing sounds inside Ableton Live.

Effects & Space
Explore how delay, reverb and modulation can expand a synthesizer sound into richer textures, atmospheres and spatial environments.

Hands-On Studio Practice
A substantial part of the workshop is dedicated to experimentation. Participants create sounds from scratch, move between different instruments and experience how the same synthesis principles behave across very different machines.

THE EXPERIENCE

The workshop takes place inside WIDER SOUNDS studio, with access to a collection of iconic vintage and modern synthesizers.

Rather than focusing only on theory or software, participants can explore synthesis directly through the instruments, comparing different sounds, architectures and approaches in a practical way.

With a maximum of four participants, the workshop is kept intimate and interactive, with plenty of time for questions, experimentation and individual guidance.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The workshop is suitable for:

  • Beginners curious about synthesizers and electronic sound

  • Producers who use software synths but want to better understand synthesis

  • Musicians interested in working with analog and hardware instruments

  • Artists looking to expand their approach to sound design

  • Producers who want a stronger foundation before moving into more advanced synthesis techniques

No previous experience with hardware synthesizers is required.

FORMAT

6 hours total

PRIVATE
One-to-one workshop
6 hours with flexible scheduling

A focused introduction designed to give participants something far more valuable than learning one synthesizer: the ability to understand sound and approach almost any synthesizer with confidence.
